Grass-fed Beef Tallow
Organic beef tallow is a natural source of skin-loving vitamins A (retinol), D, E, and K. Its well-balanced Omega 3 & 6 fatty acid profile supports skin repair and rejuvenation before and after sun exposure.
Non-Nano Zinc Oxide
Non-nano zinc oxide creates a physical barrier that provides broad-spectrum UV protection. It also offers anti-inflammatory benefits and has been shown to effectively treat conditions such as eczema.
Coconut Oil

How do I use it?
Start Small: Our product is potent with no chemical fillers, so a little goes a long way. Begin with a small amount and adjust to find what works for you.
Application : Apply 15 minutes before sun exposure. This version offers protection equivalent to a light sunscreen. Experiment to determine how often you need to reapply based on your sun exposure and activity level. Practice safe sun habits, avoid prolonged exposure until skin's natural resistance is built up.
Daily Use: Apply daily for best results. Use strategically to areas that are exposed to the most sun.
Product Longevity: One 2oz tin provides 60+ facial applications. To extend its lifespan, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Is this sunscreen?
It can be used as an alternative option to light sunscreen because it contains enough zinc to provide sun protection equivalent to a 20-25 spf sunscreen. However, it is not designed to be a direct substitute. Its purpose is rather to heal and boost your skin's natural strength and resistance to sun-related damage. Think of it more like a supplement for your skin, that can also help you avoid a sunburn in a pinch.
Will I still get a sunburn?
Offering similar protection to a light sunscreen, it will prevent sunburns from light to moderate exposure. If used consistently over time in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle you will build up your natural tolerance and will only experience sunburns after excessive sun exposure. If you never go outside and then apply sunbutter once before going to the beach for 6 hours, yes, you will probably still burn.
Is it greasy? Will it clog my pores?
Our Original Sunbutter is noncomedogenic. In english that means, no it will not clog your pores. Just another example of why simple is better.
How often do I need to reapply?
We're not big fans of the SPF grading system (see here) and the FDA pulls some shady moves with its approval process.
For daily use, apply to your face at least once per day. For use on a beach day, we'll say this, treat it like you would an SPF 20 sunscreen. Reapply as needed.
How long does a tin last?
Each 2oz tin contains enough product for 60+ facial applications.
Is is reef-safe?
Each ingredient in our Original Sunbutter has been carefully selected to be safe for both your skin and the environment. It will not damage any marine life and is considered completely reef-safe. (Hawaii legal!)
